
Dr. Theresa Checkley – Athabasca Eye Doctor
Dr. Theresa Checkley attended the University of Alberta and received her Bachelor of Science degree, she majored in biological sciences and minored in physical sciences. After graduating, Dr. Checkley was accepted to the optometry program at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove Oregon, where she graduated with honors with distinction.
Her training brought her to an array of different clinics; including, a laser eye surgery clinic, a multi-doctor, rural private clinic, a contact lens clinic and a Veterans Administration Hospital. It was at this hospital in Lexington Kentucky where she discovered her passion for the diagnosis and management of ocular disease; including but not limited to, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, cataracts and dry eyes.
In Dr. Checkley’s down time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, THREE dogs and her cat. When she’s not spending time at home she enjoys camping, hiking, snowboarding, stand-up paddle boarding and playing ringette. She loves to travel and to find new places to eat, she’s a big foodie. Optometric Assistant
Kerry has been part of the team from 2004 to 2010, during which time she completed the course to become a certified Optometric Assistant. She took nine years away to start a family and recently rejoined the team in 2019. Kerry’s hobbies include playing hockey, baseball, snowboarding and camping. What she enjoys most is spending time with her husband and two children.

Sarah joined the team in 2016 with previous optical experience from her time working as an Optical Assistant in Grande Prairie, AB. Sarah enjoys the challenge of finding the perfect set of glasses to meet each individual’s needs and getting to know our patients. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys. She is a busy sports mom who enjoys the outdoors and keeping active.
